Basic Rights Presentation

A Workshop for Parents and Professions

A representative from the Federation for Children with Special Needs will present this Basic Rights workshop for parents and professionals. It provides families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and Massachusetts Special Education Law. The workshop is designed to help parents learn to be effective partners with their child’s school to decide their child’s eligibility for special education, and to plan, make decisions and monitor their child’s progress in school. This workshop will answer basic questions in special education including:

  • What is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)?
  • Why and who makes the referral?
  • What is effective progress?
  • What is a 504 Plan?
  • What is an IEP?
  • What is an accommodation?
  • What is Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)?
  • What is Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)?

This presentation is FREE and open to the public. RSVP is suggested, but not required.
Please visit our Eventbrite page to register.

This presentation is co-hosted by the SEPACs of Acton-Boxborough, Maynard, and Sudbury.
